FAQs

  1.  Should I add keyword strings into the page title field?

Entering a Page Title

Tip:

The most effective page titles utilize keywords that appear in text on the page and have also been entered into the keywords and description box.

The page title is the name that will appear in the top blue bar of a visitor’s web browser. You can type up to sixty characters (approximately ten words, including spaces and punctuation) here to describe the content on your page.

At the time of writing, this field is very important for most search engines and will help them to index and rank your page.

You can edit the page title at any time.

  1. Go to Pages > Add/Edit Pages.
  2. Click on a page name in the main menu.
  3. Type the page title into the Page Title field.
  4. Save the page and publish the website.

Entering a Menu Label

Tip:

Good menu labels can be established names such as Contact Us, About Us, Portfolio, Products, Services.

The Menu Label is the actual name of the page. It will also appear in the navigation menu of your site and in the list of pages at the Add/Edit Pages screen of the Site Builder.  It should describe the content of your page in one to two words so that users can easily recognize what content they will reach by clicking on a menu item.

You can edit the menu label of a page at any time.

  1. Go to Pages > Add/Edit Pages.
  2. Click on a page name in the main menu.
  3. Type the menu label into the Menu Label field.
  4. Save the page and publish the website.

Adding page specific keywords

Tip: Don’t get blacklisted

Remember not to repeat keywords in the following manner “florist, florist, florist, florist”.

This is known as spamming and can result in search engines blacklisting your site so that it does not show up.

It is okay to use the same word in different configurations ie “florist shop Melbourne, wedding bouquet florist”.

Page specific keywords are important words or phrases that describe the content found on your page.

Use words that appear on the page and that you would expect people to enter into a search engine to find the information on that page.

For example a florist shop website that contains a page of content about different flower species might use keywords such as "fresh roses, fresh geraniums, birds of paradise melbourne, australian native flowers delivery melbourne" etc.

  1. Go to Pages > Add/Edit Pages.
  2. Click on a page name in the main menu.
  3. Click the Add Keywords and Description button.
  4. To use the default keywords that have already been added to the preferences part of your site, click Use Default. You can use default keywords and add more keywords for the specific content on your page.
  5. Type words into the keywords field. Your keywords can (and should) contain more than one word, separate each keyword string with a comma and a space.
  6. Click Okay.
  7. Save the page and publish your website.

Adding page specific description

Tip: Good descriptions

The best descriptions utilize keywords that appear on the page (both as keywords and in the content).

Create a sentence using keyowrds that is no more than 20-25 words long.

The description on a web page is used by some search engines to classify and rank your web pages.

A page specific description may appear in search engine results under the name of your website. It should describe the content of the particular web page and try to ‘sell’ your site so that visitors choose to view your site.

For example a florist shop website that contains a page of content about different flower species it stocks might use a description such as "Fresh flowers in Melbourne stocks a wide variety of fresh market flowers including roses, geraniums, birds of paradise, australian natives and more" etc.

  1. Go to Pages > Add/Edit Pages.
  2. Click on a page name in the main menu.
  3. Click the Add Keywords and Description button.
  4. To use the default description that was already added to the preferences part of your site, click Use Default. You can use the default description as well as edit it to reflect the specific content on the page.
  5. Type text into the description field.
  6. Click Okay. Save the page and publish your website.

Tip: What is this for?

Advanced users may use this box to enter code for banner advertising plugins.

This box is for website owners with more advanced skills to embed scripts for the header part of a HTML page.

Some websites have extra functionalities that requires extra code to control the display of elements that are added into a page.  An example of this may be code needed for banner advertising plugins.

The code entered into this section is included within the <head> </head> tags of this particular web page.

  1. Go to Pages > Add/Edit Pages.
  2. Click on a page name in the main menu.
  3. Paste code into the Insert Code (Advanced) box.
  4. Click Okay
  5. Save the page and publish the website.

Should I add keyword strings into the page title field?

At the time of writing it is recommended that keywords are entered into the page title field to assist search engine rankings.

Be aware that some visitors still use the title bar of their Internet Browser (where the title field will appear) to aid navigation through the website so it is not recommended to add keyword strings such as "roses, geraniums, birds of paradise," into the page title field.

Rather, use keywords in a sentence such as "Stocking a variety of fresh flowers including roses, geraniums, birds of paradise".
