FAQs

  1. Can I preview the photo gallery page?

What is the Photo Gallery module

Tip:

The Gallery Feeds provide you with very sophisticated ways to display a series of photos on your content pages.

Remember to look for the Module Feed button in the content editor (it looks like a star).

The Photo Gallery module enables you to create online image galleries.  All you need to do is upload images and add text and descriptions to them. Once you have done this, the Photo Gallery automatically resizes them for a variety of display options.

Typically, the images that you upload are automatically scaled down to a ‘thumbnail' (a smaller version of the image that works as a preview).  When a visitor clicks on a thumbnail, the full-sized image is displayed.  Each gallery can appear as a separate web page in your website navigation (this does not contribute to your page count) or a gallery feed can be inserted onto an existing page using the content editor.

Creating a new photo gallery

Tip: Naming Galleries

Work efficiently by creating a name for your gallery that reflects the images that it contains.

The name ‘flower_arrangements' is a much better name  than ‘gallery_1'.

The photo gallery module enables you to create online image galleries.  All you need to do is upload images (and add an optional description to them). Once you have done this, the photo gallery module automatically resizes them for a variety of display options.

  1. Choose Modules > Photo Gallery.
  2. Click Add a Gallery.
  3. Enter a name for the gallery. It must not contain any spaces, use underscores instead (e.g., flower_arrangements).
  4. Click Save.
  5. Add images to the gallery.

Adding images to a photo gallery

Tip:

If you have more than twenty images to display, consider separating the images into groups (you could do this thematically or alphabetically).

Grouping images helps visitors to find what they want quickly (and prevents them from scrolling through lots of images).

The photo gallery module enables you to create online image galleries.  Once you have created a gallery, you can upload multiple images to it so that they can display together.

  1. Choose Modules > Photo Gallery.
  2. Find the gallery name that you need to add images to.  Click Manage Images.
  3. Click Browse to find the image on your computer that you need to upload.  Select the image and click Open. The file name of the image will now appear in the field. You can queue up to ten images at a time by repeating these two steps in each empty field.
  4. Click Upload Images.  This will upload the images from your computer to your website. They will appear in the image list at the bottom of the screen.

You can delete images from the gallery at any time by clicking the Delete button.

Adding/editing photo gallery image descriptions

The most professional looking galleries use standard image sizes for portrait and landscape images.

Decide on a set of dimensions and edit your images to these dimensions to give your gallery consistency.  Ultimately this leads to a professional looking website.

See the related article Preparing images for a website.

The photo gallery module enables you to create online image galleries.  Once you have uploaded images into your photo gallery, you can add descriptions to the images.  These descriptions will appear beneath the images on your site.

Adding a photo gallery page to the website navigation

The photo gallery module enables you to create online image galleries.  Once you have uploaded images into a photo gallery you can add the gallery page to your website navigation.  The gallery will display within your template and appear to be another web page however it will not contribute to your total page count.

  5. Go to Pages > Move/Delete Pages to insert the gallery link into your navigation menu.
